The outdated website and non-existent logo of the Boynton Beach Police Department attracted our attention as a design challenge. Like so many government websites, BBPD suffered from the lack of a strong, unified brand and their small, cluttered website was confusing and awkward for visitors to use.
We first addressed the need for a brand and logo that would capture an image of authority, accessibility, and speed. The logotype we designed is an extra-bold contemporary slanted font with an outline of bright yellow to make it pop on any background for added visibility. We chose an eye-catching palette of yellow, teal, and blue for the logo crest to represent the sun, sand, and waves of this beach community and also to stand-out against the black uniform.
Then we adapted these graphic elements for the website and designed the homepage with a large photo of the officers on the job. The nav bar at the top contains basic information for the visitor and it is supplemented with three areas of interest below: meet the force, a feature story that would change regularly, and community involvement links. At the bottom we placed a row of quick access buttons with icons to make it easy for the visitor to quickly find what they need.
To show the versatility of the new logo, we designed a wrap for the vehicles, seen on the homepage inset of the feature story and above.
